Alex Murdaugh, a former attorney, was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for the 2021 murder of his wife and son in South Carolina. His defense team, led by Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, have a long history with the Murdaugh family and plan to appeal the conviction. According to CBS News, the appeals process could take a year or more and Murdaugh is currently at the Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center in Columbia, and will likely be transferred to a maximum security prison.

On Saturday evening, a Norfolk Southern train derailed in Springfield, Ohio, causing 28 cars to come off the tracks. Fortunately, no hazardous materials were on board and no injuries were reported to the public or the two-man crew operating the train.

Former President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on March 5th, 2023, and CNN's Daniel Dale fact-checked the claims made by the former president. Dale found that many of Trump's claims were "wildly dishonest".
