    On Sunday evening, a protest at the future site of the Atlanta public safety training center turned violent when nearly 150 protestors burned construction equipment, threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at police, and gunshots were heard coming from the woods. According to the New York Times, the protest began peacefully, but quickly escalated when some of the protestors began to damage vehicles and set fire to construction equipment.

    The fight for the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut continues as both Kyiv and Moscow struggle to maintain their positions in the face of mounting casualties and ammunition shortages. Russian forces have been pounding the routes out of the city, while the Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, who controls the mercenary Wagner force leading the offensive, has warned that if his men are forced to withdraw, it could lead to the collapse of the entire Russian frontline.

Li was seen as a potential top leader, but was increasingly sidelined as Xi accumulated more power. Li was known as a cautious, capable, and highly intelligent bureaucrat, but was not seen as a Xi loyalist. Li was a team player who put party unity first, but his authority was gradually shrunk as Xi shifted more of the powers of the State Council to party institutions.
