U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and State Sen. Darrin Camilleri have both released statements questioning why the waste was being transported to Michigan instead of staying in Ohio. According to the Ohio governor's office, 4,832 cubic yards of soil have been excavated and more might be removed. The material is being transported to landfills and disposal facilities that are designed to accept it safely in accordance with state and federal regulations.
